Hello, I’m Michelle, a Californian infected with wanderlust which has guided my feet to this beautiful city of Madrid. I am living here for two months which means that I had to find a home. My choices were to do a homestay (living with a local family) or to live in a shared flat with other students. Even though I had a mixed emotion of hesitation and eagerness to live in the home of locals, I did choose to stay with a family here which turned out to have been the best choice for me! I know what you’re thinking: How do you go out? How do you not feel like you’re invading their privacy? How do you have full-on conversations in Spanish? All of these questions are the ones I asked myself and the ones that made me want to challenge myself in my abroad experience.
My homestay family has given me my own room and their hospitality has made me feel like I’m home. Not only do they give me a sense of family comfort, but my host-parents have provided me with authentic Spanish meals, laundry assistance, and they gladly engage in daily conversations about our distinct cultures and everyday lives. If doing a homestay is not your idea of living abroad, no worries at all! Be Madrid can help you get settled in a shared flat, single flat or student housing. In Madrid, you’ll learn that it’s easy to feel at home!
